Los Cabos here we come!

On Friday morning, we leave for Los Cabos for 3 days. Matt's friend from Pepperdine is getting married there on Saturday. We are staying at the hotel where the wedding will be held. It should be a really quick but fun and relaxing trip. I'm going to try to savor it because when I get back to town reality (i.e. studying for comps in addition to my regular schedule) hits!
Here are a few pics from the hotel's website. We'll be sure to have lots more when we get back.
Don't have much else to say...took me 30 minutes to get out of the parking deck tonight when all I wanted to do was go home, then found out that Lost isn't on tonight (but it will be when I'm in class tomorrow!) and Project Runway is a rerun:( Bleh!

Have a great weekend....

Less hair

I got my hair cut today (at Van Michael's of course)...I hadn't planned on doing anything different until a few days ago when it kind of hit me- I wanted shorter hair. I've had shorter hair before and liked it- with as thick hair as mine it takes forever to dry and do anything to. I grew it out as long as I could stand it for the wedding last year and then only cut it a little shorter after the wedding. I didn't really decide until today that I would do it. I've really been liking Katie Holmes new short haircut and talked to Matt about it, then Laura today when we had lunch before my appointment. Charlene (hairdresser) was so into it and I really love what she did! So, I'm not Katie Holmes with a cute baby and crazy husband, but it's still pretty cute, right? The bangs are a bit short, but they will grow out fast so it's OK I think.

Magazine Part 2

Our awesome photogs, Katie & Chris with 6 of Four Creations, posted about the feature in Atlanta Brides..For those of you not able to check out the magazine in Atlanta, this gives you a really good idea of what the pages look like. I even missed the fact that one of our favorite photos is on the first page on the Table of Contents until I saw this! Check it out...

Their blogs is one of my favorites to read...I still love looking at people's wedding photos and their great work!

Movies, magazines, snow, and a table

Uh, sorry about the title...my creative juices are dry tonight!

So, I guess I'm grown up now..because getting a dining room table (finally!) has totally made my month. We actually bought this table and chairs a few weeks ago for a total steal- we bought the floor model on sale and then they sold that in error before we came back to pick it up, so they gave us a brand new one for the sale price! The chairs were also on sale, so it was a great deal. We've been searching all over for the right table to fit in the space. I think the orange-red chairs look great with the blue walls. Excuse the mess behind the table- we're ordering the matching bookshelf to the table and all that school mess will either go in that or upstairs in the office area I set up in our bedroom. I really love working at this dining table, though. It's been fun to eat 'real' dinners there with Matt too! Last week, Matt went to his first cooking class (a Christmas gift from me) and it was on pasta. He cooked an amazing bolognese last night, and we just ate the leftovers again tonight- yum!

In other news, it snowed here in Atlanta yesterday...we woke up Saturday to find beautiful snow falling. Even though I hate driving with any kind of ice, we ventured out Sat. afternoon to see "Cloverfield". This movie is a must see- really fast paced and cool. However, if I lived in NYC I might be scared to watch it:)

Also, a few days ago, I found out that the magazine that has us as one of their 'real weddings' -"Brides Atlanta" came out. I went immediately to B&N to pick it up, and we got a kick out of the one-page spread. It's funny to see what photos others choose to feature of your wedding, but it's really cool to see it in print and have our great vendors featured.

Have a great week everyone!

Random stuff

I think my brain's a little too over worked to do anything but list some things that have happened recently or are on my mind...I'll try to keep the school stuff out of it to minimize the snooze factor:

-This weekend, we tried a new Mexican place in Oakhurst for dinner with Sarah...food was good but the chips and salsa just can't compare to the standards- La Casita and Taqueria del Sol.
-Friday night, Matt and I went to Kevin Rathbun Steak, the site of (one) of Matt's bachelor celebrations before the wedding (he had 2, I always tease him that I'm jealous). It was sooooo good! What a treat!
-We met up with our friend Matt U. to celebrate his birthday at the Krog Bar. We sat outside, which was a little chilly even with the heat lamp, but it was still really fun (although we had a terribly annoying crowd sitting near us). Happy belated bday Matt U.!
-Last Tuesday was our good friend Blythe's bday- happy belated bday, soon to be mommy (again!)
-Sunday, we saw "The Great Debators", which was actually a sort of assignment from one of my professors. I really enjoyed it; it was really a well-done portrayal of that time period, extending just beyond this one debate team. I enjoyed that assignment a lot:)
-Sunday for dinner we went to Redfish with my parents and sister...Yum!
-OK I just realized that we really ate some good food this weekend:)
-I have to say that American Gladiators has sucked me in...it's so cheesy but fun. I love seeing the women kick butt and it makes me feel just a tiny bit more motivated to move my tush a little more...speaking of that, I went to my first kickboxing class since December today and I know tomorrow is going to be rough!
-I can't wait to go to Mexico in a couple of weeks...I even ordered a new bathing suit!

I've added some photos- 2 from New Year's Eve, with Matt and Sonia (separately) and Matt and I at cousin Mikey's wedding.
Hope this finds everyone well...

Next semester....

starts tomorrow- ah! Where did the break go? Oh well. In preparation for the new semester which promises to be nuts, I thought I'd blog about the classes I'll be taking and my schedule for those interested (Mom). Maybe this will explain why, if you ask me to dinner sometime, I'll have to be so particular about which night.
So, Tuesday nights (7:15-9:45) I'm taking Sociology of the Inner City Child. Can't wait for it, but it stinks that it's so late! Then, Wednesday at 9am-11:30am, I teach the literacy course with the same crew as usual all year. From 4:30-7pm, I take Critique of Ed. Research which promises to be painful but good preparation for my comps (will explain that in a minute). On Thursdays, I'll be out at an elem school supervising interns for the entire school day, but luckily the school is in our neighborhood and I absolutely love the school! Then, Thurs. nights I have another class from 7:15-9:45pm- Supervision of School Literacy Programs...wasn't planning on taking this, but the other (earlier) class I was registered for was cancelled and I love this professor who is teaching it. Then there's Fridays, where I usually have an all-day meeting one to two times a month.
So, what will I do during all those times I'm not in class? Study for "comps"- comprehensive exams. At the end of a phd program, one takes comps to ensure that one knows enough to begin the dissertation process. Since I only will have 3 classes to take this summer and fall, I'm going to go ahead and take them this semester. So, each member of my committee (3) creates a question for me and I have a certain amount of time to write it and turn it in. There's also one more question I'll have to do that is program-wide. Some people make you sit all day and write, some members will let you take it home and give you a few days to write. Some give you lots of 'ideas' about what your questions are so that you can really read beforehand and be more prepared. What I'm planning to do is do about 1 question a week beginning in March, and then turn them all done by the end of March so that I can then do an oral defense of them all with my committee- whew!! So if you don't hear from me at all in March you know why.....Before then, I have lots of reading to do to 'pre prepare' if that makes any sense.
Is it May yet? :)

I love my husband

So, I woke up this morning with the realization that yes, I am quite sick and I needed to actually rest today to get better by the time school starts. I pushed myself to get a lot done at school yesterday in preparation for our first class, so today I literally slept all day. I'm feeling better even after today (and much more knowledgeable about America's Next Top Model)
Matt came home to find me in this state, and is now at Kroger getting all kinds of goods to get me better (sure I can't smell but ice cream is always good). I know it's cheesy but I love him.
That's it. Hope everyone is well. Think good thoughts for me so that I'm better by Monday!

Happy New Year!

Sorry I'm a bit late with my wishes...I was a little sick on NYE but I think all the fun made me even sicker! We had an awesome time at Agave for dinner- we had a private table upstairs and the company was great...a really nice and fun group of 10. The menu included potato leek soup, a terrific salad, scallops with a spicy grit cake, a pork tamale with posole, and anise seed cookies with ice cream for dessert. It sounds boring, but I think the salad was my favorite- and I got to eat 2 of them for Matt! I'll post pics when someone (uh em, Sonia) emails them to me:)
Yesterday was spent sleeping in, watching movies, and grocery shopping. My mom gave me "Once" as a Christmas gift and we finally watched it and loved it! One of my favorite parts was seeing all the places in Dublin that I spent so much time in...namely Grafton Street, the "high" street where all the chain stores....(ah Monsoon and Accessorize how I miss you). We also saw "The Prestige" last night, which came from Netflix and has been sitting by our TV for weeks now (we really don't make the most of our subscription). We still can't figure out whey we hadn't seen it before, considering Christian Bale and Scarlett Johansen are in it...Matt and I's movie star crushes. We both really liked it. It makes me so excited for the new Batman movie that's coming out next year!
So, today....still sick. We're cooking Chicken tortilla soup (a cooking light recipe) and trying to stay warm- It's soooo cold here!

Good night...
