Let me explain

Today I received my 3 comp questions from my three committee members.
Comp =Comprehensive Exams. In a Phd program, one has to 'pass' these in order to move onto the dissertation process. Places do them in different ways. In my department, you can arrange with your committee to either sit and do them one at a time on the spot, or you can arrange to take them home and work on them. This means that expectations are higher, since you've had resources and more time to do them. So, I received my 3 questions today and have to return them on March 28th. In addition to these 3, we (all phd students) have to sit for 2 department-wide comp exams and write them in one night. I am doing this March 18th.

I explain all these to say- if I don't happen to talk to you this month (until March 28th) please don't be offended. It's a lot to do. Luckily, I planned this so that I will have all of next week basically open, since it's GSU's Spring Break. I also have less teaching responsibilities in March although I still supervise interns in the field.

Sorry, this is by far the most boring post ever. But I thought it would be helpful to explain. Prayers, good thoughts, vibes are all needed and appreciated this month:)

Yeah, this blog has been a little boring lately. Why? Mostly because I'm not doing a whole lot lately except sleeping, working, eating, and the occasional free time with Matt or a friend. So, I'll try to keep these recent and current events exciting.

This week was (yes again) busy. Trying to get ready to start my comps next week means I need to get a lot of teaching and school work stuff done and out of the way. Yesterday, I had the whole day to work and it was great! First though, I met up with the fabulous Meg to get an early breakfast at Solstice, a great little cafe in Grant Park near us. It was the perfect way to start a day of work. Last night, Matt and I were both tired and so we ate frozen pizza (actually very good) and watched Arrested Development. We actually made it out of the house a little later for ice cream. Today, I'll hopefully do lots of work and then we are having dinner with my parents and sister at a newish Mexican place in Inman Park...let's see if it holds up to the gold standard of La Casita:) Later, Matt and I may try to see a movie- either Vantage Point or Be Kind Rewind. Tomorrow, I'll meet up with Caitlin who is town for the weekend, do work, and watch the Oscars (even though I've seen few of the movies).

Matt and I have become obsessed with Arrested Development. We never watched it when it was on, even though I knew it was supposed to be very good. I feel terrible that I didn't watch it at the time, since that's why it was canceled after 3 seasons. We've been borrowing the DVDs from Matt's co-worker and now we're on season 3..and almost done. I don't want it to end.

Just got the call that my good friend Laura is engaged. I'm so excited for her! Woo hoo! Congrats Laura and Anthony- wish you were here in Atlanta so we could give you a hug in person!

Happy V-Day!

What could be a more beautiful way to feel some love on V-Day? Here is Isabelle, our friend Sarah and Stuart's new baby. We saw her on Sunday but haven't uploaded our photos yet. Stuart just sent this. Isn't she gorgeous?
Happy to V-Day to all! Matt and I had an impromptu lunch today since my scheduled observation was canceled today. I have class tonight, so we'll have dinner tomorrow night. Hope everyone is doing great!

What a week!

Oh my gosh- I can't believe how crazy things have been! Our trip to Cabo was great- it was such a stunning location for a beautiful wedding. We literally did not leave the resort and loved it! It is definitely a place I'd like to go to again for 4-5 days of pure relaxation....Here are photos of the resort, wedding, and Matt's friends from Pepperdine.

Matt's been out of town all week, and school has kept me very busy. I'm really happy that he's coming home tonight and that this crazy week is over! I'm so exhausted that my awesome sister is picking up dinner on her way home from work and bringing it here to eat. Wow. What a sister. The reason that I'm so tired is that today was a big conference that our department puts on every year- I didn't present this year, but I helped out all day, picking up the keynote speaker at her hotel and taking photos all day. And, I had a nice surprise at the end of the day- I was awarded the "Outstanding Doctoral Student in Research Award"- woo hoo:)

In other news, two families we love have new additions to their lives. Our good friends The Tinkers welcomed their daughter Isabelle this afternoon- so exciting! I can't wait to meet her! Also, our friends The Levines got a precious puppy that looks adorable.
