As of this minute, I've written 26 pages for 1 comp, 13 pages for another, and 10 for the 3rd. Just over a week to go.....
Hopefully I will find out by tonight if I passed my 2 from earlier this week, according to one of my professors 'I'm fine' but that's a little vague for me!
Wow I'm boring. Hopefully after the 28th this blog will be much more interesting!

I'm tired
I'm tired. 4 hours of writing stinks no way around it. Don't know if I passed but I felt OK. That's it for now....more later. Good night and thanks for any prayers and thoughts today.

We were lucky
Friday night, Matt and I were watching a movie (Empire of the Sun) when the storm that we knew was coming turned serious. Because we have large bay windows on our 2nd level that look out into the city, we saw weather that was hard to describe but very scary. In a matter of minutes, our power was out and we were in our garage storage room that is built underground. I called my parents to find out what the situation was and sure enough there was a tornado warning in the area. After a short time (really no more than 10 mins.), the storm ended. We were without power all night and because I couldn't charge my phone, I shut it off to save power.
Saturday morning I had a scheduled comp study group session at GSU. I woke up just before this was to start with messages from my group members asking if I was OK and wondering where we'd meet, since GSU was closed down due to storm damage all around downtown. Exits were closed on the hwy and people were told not to come downtown. We live 2.5 miles from downtown. This was all news to me. They both live in northern suburbs of the city, but wanted to meet near me since I was still without power. We went to a nearby coffee shop in our 'hood and that's when I realized the seriousness of what had happened and how lucky we had been. Just down the street from where we were, an old loft building and Oakland cemetery were badly hit. They told me about the damage to Centennial Park, CNN, and some GSU buildings. I was worried about our friends who have a house in Cabbagetown, less than a mile from our area. It wasn't until later that day when our power came back on that I saw the photos and heard from our friends to say that they and their house was OK. We had another short storm of hail and rain later in the day (hail hurts by the way), all while trying to study with my group. Needless to say, my mind wasn't really up to studying and I'm pretty anxious about Tuesday. We all spoke about how our department should postpone comps for a day since we basically had a day of studying taken away from us...yeah right:)
The weather is beautiful here today. It's sunny and in the 70s. I drove through part of Cabbagetown on the way home from working at a coffee shop and parts of it are really bad. Again, it's less than a mile from us, just on the other side from a major road here in Atlanta. We were lucky....

Thank You Sonia!
Friday afternoon I got a very surprising but very awesome email. Maybe it's her counseling background, but my friend Sonia somehow had a 6th sense that I had been having trouble sitting and sleeping (moving in general) because of a shooting pain in my left shoulder and neck area. Mmmm, stress maybe? She sent me a gift certificate for a massage at the spa across the street from us- can you believe that? So, today before class I got the massage and all I can say is - ahhhhhh and thank you Sonia! Your totally uncalled for but amazing thoughtfulness is much appreciated:)

How beautiful is this?
Yesterday, our wedding present from my dear friend Cathy arrived. Besides just being excited to still be receiving wedding presents :), when we opened the box we were overwhelmed at this absolutely gorgeous quilt that Cathy made for us. Here is a photo Cathy took of her cutie son Blue with it before she sent it. It has our brown and blue wedding colors, and she stitched our names and wedding date on one corner. Of course, in true Cathy fashion took something like 4 evening classes on quilting and does this, among all her other artistic talents (see our wedding program fans and all the signs for the day). She does this all while being pregnant with her second child and about to deliver in the next month, so she is really amazing!
Thank you Cathy! This is such a meaningful and unique gift. We will cherish it.

REM
Last night, my sister called me to tell me that her friend Dustin had called her and asked her if she was free to do REM's makeup in Athens today for a TV shoot. My first reaction was - Oh my gosh, what a great opportunity and my second one was- I am coming with you.
It's kind of a long story, but Dustin has a friend whose husband works with REM in Athens and so when they needed someone last minute, he mentioned her name. CBS's Sunday Morning was shooting a special with them today in preparation for their new album coming out. Laura was a little nervous, but excited. Luckily, since it's Spring Break, I could come with her (comps, what comps?) I drove (in the torrential downpour that was this morning's weather) us to Athens this morning and delivered her at REM's offices and then their small studio. I then had lunch and planted myself at a coffee shop nearby in the hopes that she'd call to tell me when I could pop over and meet the band:) I actually got a good bit of work done...and finally, at the end of the day I was able to come in and watch the band perform through window on the door. Even though I had my camera and couldn't persuade Laura to ask for a photo, it was still a thrill to see and hear them from so close. Laura had a great time and it was such a good opportunity for her work. You can see the show on March 30th and judge it for yourself!

8 pages
As of this evening, I've written 8 pages for 1 comp. question...this has all happened today and that's all I did all day, save for a 45 min. run and eating. I already feel behind (most comp papers are 15-30 pages each). Saturday was spent organizing, reading and re-reading things, and brainstorming. I have pages of handwritten graphic organizer (webs) for each question. Yesterday was spent organizing and studying with a group of classmates for my 2 department comps.
Last night, I did take a break and had a nice night with Matt. We had dinner and went to see "Semi-Pro" with the awesome Will Ferrell. It was good but not great. Nothing can beat Anchorman:)
